Working in Angola, Africa...oil fields

My husband has gotten a job offer in Angola, Africa working for Oceaneering. He would be working at some sort of compound, as an HSE making an insane pay check. I want to know if its safe. I have heard some horror stories of people being on the land rigs, being held hostage and shot at. However since most of that has happened there has been a cease fire. Does anyone know if its any safer over there? He is all for it, but I have some reservations about letting my husband go off to a country torn by civil war. I have read wikipedia and its version of the life in that area of africa but it was kinda vauge so any recent personal experience would be much appreciated but I will settle for any at this point, because if he goes, he is leaving pretty soon. Thanks

  1. A friend of mine is in the army and is stationed in Africa. It is alot calmer over there in the past few months. People are trying to adhere to a different turn in regiment and getting used to the ideas of newer governmental structures. No area is great right now, but if he goes, now is the time to do it, while the country is trying for social change.
  2. Well your husband should be in good hands. National Guard should be stationed around the oil fields. You should worry when they make the trip by bus.
